Opposition county councillors have welcomed the resignation of Cllr Brian Hall and are now putting pressure on the council leader.
The three opposition group leaders - Labour's Sue Perkins, Plaid's Michael Williams and Liberal Democrat Tony Brinsden - have formed a united front and released a joint press release.
It reads: "All three groups are adamant that they will continue to press for a radically different approach from the so-called Independents and an end to secrecy and subterfuge that is the hallmark of the current leadership."
The three councillors are also calling for the removal of Cllr Hall from the fire authority on the grounds that his presence is an embarrassment to Pembrokeshire voters'.
Cllr Sue Perkins said: "To see Cllr Hall finally resign his cabinet post and admit that he did not have the support of his own group, who had always supported him through all his antics, was a great relief.
"Why the leader has put up with him for so long is a mystery to most people."
Cllr Tony Brinsden said Cllr Hall's resignation will enable councillors to have confidence in John Davies' leadership.
"There is a lot more to come out on the events surrounding this affair and we have a right to be told," he said.
Cllr Mike Williams remarked that opposition groups would be keeping up the pressure until Cllr Davies removed Cllr Hall from all positions of responsibility."
