A NEW dental practice could be coming to Pembroke Dock if a change of use planning application is approved.
A Dr Adegbesan submitted the application to change 1 Harbour Way from residential use to a dental surgery to Pembrokeshire County Council last month.
Mayor-elect Paul Weatherall supported the application, saying the practice was badly needed in Pembroke Dock and the county.
But he said fears that patient traffic would cause turning and parking problems in the cul-de-sac made it a controversial topic of discussion at last week's town council meeting.
He said: "Many councillors felt there would be better locations within the town, which is probably true.
"But if we say no, this dentist may not come to Pembroke Dock and we badly need this dentist here."
The town that once had four dentists operating currently has only two.
"If this is an NHS practice, there will be queues of people from all over the county when it opens," said Cllr Weatherall.
A vote gave town council approval by a majority of one and will recommend the application to the county council.
A county council spokesman said the application was scheduled for a delegated decision by council officers.
