FIRE crews were called to a the smell of gas at a hotel in Bournemouth on Sunday morning.
Dorset Fire and Rescue said they were called at 6.28am to the hotel on Meyrick Road in Bournemouth.
They discovered a fire involving a mini bar in a third floor room.
The fire was extinguished by removal and isolation, with crews then ventilating the room.
A spokesperson for the service refused to confirm the name of the hotel.
The cause is believed to have been a fault in the mini bar, leading to an explosion of the rear of the fridge.
The smell of gas was due to the ammonia refrigerator gas escaping after the explosion but it had dissipated prior to the arrival of crews.
The mini bar fridge sustained damage due to the explosion and the desk enclosing the fridge sustained a small amount of heat damage.
