CADW, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service, is encouraging people to make the most of their local heritage sites by hosting a programme of family events across the two May bank holidays.

As part of the programme the Battle of Agincourt – one of the most renowned victories in British military history – will be re-enacted at Cilgerran Castle by living history group, the Companions of the Forest to mark the battle’s 600th anniversary.

The ‘Preparing for Agincourt’ event (23 May – 24 May) will include: have-a-go archery, interactive medieval costume sessions and a spectacular re-enactment of the Battle of Agincourt – in which Henry V famously defeated a much larger French army – will be on offer to guests between 11am and 4pm.

In addition, visitors will be able to try their hand at archery at Kidwelly Castle’s ‘Archers and Arrows’ event, while a number of other interactive events will also take place at Cadw sites across May, including Lamphey Bishop’s Palace, and St Davids Bishop’s Palace, as the organisation looks to engage people in their heritage.

Ken Skates, Deputy Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport, said: “Cadw’s varied programme of events is specially designed to help locals and tourists alike discover Wales’s historic sites through fun, hands-on experiences and activities.

“I urge people to take advantage of the programme this bank holiday to find out more about Wales’s remarkable history.”
