TEENAGE four-piece the Mustangs will be among the acts drumming up cash for a local food bank charity this Friday (April 24).

As well as raising money for poverty-relief charity Pembrokeshire Action To Combat Hardship (PATCH), the Big Gig, at Pembrokeshire College, will be a chance for Year 2 music technology students to show off their skills.

Joining headliners the Mustangs – who have built up a solid reputation across the county with their rock and roll style – will be Oshboys, who mix contemporary original sounds with the deep grooves of 1970s reggae.

Expect to join in and sing along with Andy Millward - a 'campfire' acoustic artist who plays covers from across the decades – and get ready for a ‘powerful racket’ from punk duo Skruff.

The event is the last of a series of gigs that music technology students have organised in recent months.

Venues have included Cellar Bar in Cardigan, Pendre Inn in Fishguard and Hermon Hall near Crymych, but music lecturer Tim Lambert said students would be would be ‘pulling out all the stops’ for this final gig.

Asked why the students chose PATCH as a beneficiary, Mr Lambert said: “Patch was chosen as it works to reduce hardship for local people and the students wanted to raise awareness of the issues that our neighbours are faced with everyday, particularly in our current economic and political climate where we see peoples standards of living being challenged all the time.”

“The gig is also an opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills in delivering live shows including setting up and operating the sound and lighting," he said.

“The Merlin Theatre will be transformed for the event and it will be a unique and exciting experience for all music lovers, and also those who wish to support local charities such as PATCH.”

PATCH co-ordinator Tracy Olin said she was immensely grateful that the students wanted to help.

“We can only keep going because of the amazing generosity of the people in Pembrokeshire and I just haven't got the words to express our gratitude,” she said.

The gig is open to all ages, but ID will be required at the bar.

Tickets will be £5 on the door, but are available from college reception for £4 in advance.

Doors at 7pm, with the first band on at 7.30pm.
