A MAN has been airlifted to hospital following after a lorry overturned on the A477 between Red Roses and St Clears this morning (Tuesday).

Police are still at the scene, and diversions are currently in place, with the road likely to remain closed until at least 5pm.

Reports of an overturned lorry were received by emergency services at around 10.20am this morning.

Firefighters from Whitland and Narberth assisted police, ambulance and air ambulance crew in working to free the male driver of the lorry, who had sustained serious injuries.

Hydraulic cutting equipment, powered saws and small gear were used, and the man was then airlifted to Swansea’s Morriston Hospital.

The A477 is currently closed both ways between B4314 (Red Roses Cross Roads) and A40 / A4066 Tenby Road (St Clears Roundabout) while the lorry is recovered.

A police spokesman said:  “It is anticipated that the road will be closed until approximately 5pm to allow time for the load on the lorry involved in the RTC to be transferred to a different lorry for transportation.”

Motorists travelling between Kilgetty and Carmarthen are being redirected.

Yellow diamond diversion signs are directing traffic from St Clears on the A40 to Canaston Bridge, near Narberth and past Oakwood theme park, before heading to Templeton and Kilgetty (and vice versa).
