Can you spare some time to help others? The British Red Cross in Pembrokeshire is holding an open event at Haverfordwest Community Learning Centre today (Tuesday) to encourage more people to consider joining their team of volunteers.

The event will take place between 4pm and 8pm at the centre located off Dew Street. Local people are invited to attend and learn about the work of the Red Cross.

Volunteers for the charity help people in crisis in Pembrokeshire and the surrounding area every day. Services include the award-winning Gofal y Ddolen, which works with lonely or isolated people over the age of 50, patient transfer, and community based first aid training. The charity is also looking for people to join its first aid and emergency response teams , to be deployed at times of crisis, such as during in severe weather.

Cara Evans, volunteer recruitment officer at the Red Cross, said: “We simply couldn’t provide these services without our amazing volunteers.

“We need more people to join our team so we can make sure those members of our community who require a little extra help have access to the support they need when they need it. I encourage anyone who could offer a couple of hours a week to contact us or pop along to the open event.” For more information, call Cara Evans on 01239 615 945 or visit www.redcross.org.uk/Get-involved/Volunteer.
