UPDATE: The A40 has now reopened

The A40 into and out of Haverfordwest is currently closed following a serious collision at Arnolds Hill this afternoon (Friday) involving a motorcyclist and four vehicles.

The latest news from Pembrokeshire County Council is that the road is expected to reopen some time between 4.30pm and 5.30pm.

The Western Telegraph traffic feed, states: "A40 both ways closed, busy but moving due to serious accident, a motorcyclist and four vehicles involved between A4076 (Scotchwell Roundabout) and A4075 / B4314 (Canaston Bridge Roundabout). Sensors show traffic is busy in the area."

Pembrokeshire County Council said: "Diversion routes and signs are in place via the Cleddau Bridge.

"Please take care if travelling on back roads as they could be busy.

"The length of time for closure is unknown at present but could be for the next 4 to 5 hours."

The diversion route is: Head south at Canaston Bridge on A4075 passing Oakwood, East on A4115 to Templeton, A478 to Kilgetty, A477 to Pembroke follow to Cleddau Bridge then follow onto A4076 and vice versa.

Motorists are advised that traffic around Haverfordwest is heavy, with delays reported for diverted motorists trying to get through the roadworks at Johnston and on to Pembroke Dock.

Pembrokeshire County Council is urging motorists affected by the A40 closure to use the official diversion routes rather than minor roads.
