PEOPLE have been rallying around to help a young family from Crymych who lost everything when their caravan caught fire.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to Cidigill Farm, Blaenffos at 1.45pm on Saturday, June 20, where two residential caravans were completely destroyed.

Crews from Crymych, Cardigan and Newcastle Emlyn were in attendance for several hours, along with a water bowser from Haverfordwest.

One caravan belonged to a couple and their six year-old and 8 week-old sons, and the other the uncle. They have asked not to be named after their ordeal.

Carol Griffiths has been a close friend of the family for 15 years and has set up a public appeal on Facebook, encouraging people to donate children’s clothes, shoes, toys, furniture and household goods.

She said: “If anyone has anything that they are willing to donate to this young family to try and help them rebuild their lives, I would be so grateful. Everything from clothes, bedding to household furniture is needed.”

A JustGiving page has also been created, where Carol is hoping to collect £500 for the family.

She said: “I’ve been overwhelmed by the response of people in Pembrokeshire, the phone hasn’t stopped ringing. I’ve lost track of whose donated what to thank them.

“One person I didn’t know donated £100 via PayPal, which shows there are so many kind people out there and so many random acts of kindness.”

Carol added that they have been given a free storage unit in Cardigan, and Easy Move has offered to do collection runs.

A charity tractor run is also being held on Sunday, July 5 to raise money. It starts at Parc Gwynfryn, Crymych at 11am, with entry costing £10 and refreshments at the Boncath Inn.

The family are now searching for a three/four bedroom property to rent in the Crymych, Hermon, Tegryn and Boncath areas.
