GET yours sandwiches and spades ready for the National Trust’s Big Beach Picnic on Saturday, July 4.

Everyone is being invited to make the most of the coast, with activities taking place at Barafundle Bay and Marloes Sands.

Barafundle Bay will welcome storytelling by the sea between 11am and 2pm, with pirates, mermaids and sea-dragons.

It is free to attend, but normal car parking admission does apply at £5 per vehicle.

If you want to make a splash then head further west to Marloes Sands for an afternoon of coastal exploration and water sports. Take part in a rock pool ramble, grab a tracker pack or try surfing and stand-up paddle boarding with the Big Blue Experience.

The adventure runs between 12pm and 5pm, with water sports sessions priced at £10 per person per hour.

Booking in advance is not needed for either of the events, just drop by on the day.

The Big Beach Picnic is part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the National Trust’s Neptune campaign, a people-powered initiative set up in 1965 to help protect the nation’s precious coastline.
