A GROUP of local investors recently had an opportunity to see how their renewable energy project is progressing.

They visited the site of the Abergwaun Community Turbine in Fishguard to see how the ground works were going in preparation for the delivery of a 225kW turbine in around a month’s time.

The Abergwaun Community Turbine is a partnership between local environmental charity Transition Bro Gwaun (TBG) and Parcymorfa Farms, Fishguard. It is the first community wind turbine project in Wales, and is supported by the Welsh Government’s Community Renewables Programme.

Once up and running the turbine will be capable of producing 530,000 KWh per year, the equivalent of 130 homes. It will also cut down on emissions of carbon dioxide.

TBG trustee, Tom Latter, said: “We wish to record our appreciation for the support from local individuals and community groups who have contributed, through loans, the full £285,000 needed for our share of the cost.”

In addition to the obvious benefit of generating renewable energy, TBG’s share of the profit will be used to help to fund other local low carbon initiatives.
