Pembrokeshire triathlon wizard Oliver Simon has claimed his fourth Long Course Weekend title following a storming marathon run.

Simon went into the event's marathon this morning with a ten-minute lead on his closest challenger, Dominic Rohan-Gates.

The 35-year-old Tenby athlete crossed the finishing line in Tenby's Tudor Square in sixth place just under two minutes behind Rohan-Gates.

Completing the course in around 2.52, Simon said: "This was the fastest run I have done in Long Course, so I was happy. It feels really good to win the title again."

The marathon was won by 27-year-old Gareth Petts of Witney, Oxfordshire, competing in the Long Course Weekend for the first time.

"It was phenomenal, the best experience ever," said Petts, who was the clear leader of the 2,000-strong field in the race's closing stages.

The weekend - Wales' only three-day triathlon - attracted nearly 6,000 entries from 43 countries.

Tenby's mayor, Councillor Paul Rapi, presented medals to marathon finishers and said: "We have got a great venue and a great town to host this event - what more could you ask for?

"Thanks to all the people of Tenby for supporting this event, and making it such a wonderful experience for our sportspeople."
