Today, Monday, July 6, has been a red letter day for a group of Monkton graduates.

Some 17 people graduated with a BA degree in education & social inclusion– with another 18 awarded Foundation degrees.

The students are all graduates of a unique scheme on offer at Monkton Priory School.

The brainchild of head teacher Shelley Morris, it offers an opportunity for local people to study for a degree in their own community.

The Foundation Degree in inclusive studies for teaching assistants is delivered by The University of Wales, Trinity Saint David, and the course is assisted by lecturer Jean Williams.

“Those graduating have all worked so hard to gain these qualifications, many working full-time, with young families,” said Shelley Morris.

“Most of them would have been unable to achieve this if they had to travel to the university or stop working.

“Our partnership with Trinity Saint David has provided a unique opportunity for members of our community to study in the community.”
