SUPPORT The Boardwalk (STB) needs YOU to help complete its ambitious community project.

The group’s endeavour to renew the Slashpond Boardwalk in Broad Haven is nearing the end, but the grant from SITA Trust did not cover the cost of fitting handrails to the new walkway.

Volunteers are needed to do this job, using timber paid for by STB’s fundraising and donations.

“The sooner the handrails are fitted, the sooner the new boardwalk can open, so please join us,” said Linda Reohorn of STB. “You don't have to be an expert carpenter, a pair of hands to lift, carry, or bring tea and cakes is always greatly appreciated! Also, the reeds and hedgerows have enjoyed a growth spurt and we need to trim everything back so the Boardwalk can look its glorious best for its Opening Ceremony!”

Work on the handrails began on July 9, with volunteers attending work sessions supervised by practical members of STB.

“It was great, and really heartwarming, to see ages from 16 to 80 arrive to help us out,” said STB’s Les Reohorn. “The first day was long and tough, because all the timber had to be unloaded and carried up to the Boardwalk, but we ended on a high with a whole section finished!”

The next ‘Help with the Handrails’ session is planned for tomorrow (Thursday, July 16) from 9am. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Trafalgar Terrace Car Park, SA62 3JU. If you would like to take part, call or message Les on 07970921685 or email boardwalkgang@gmail.com

If you would like to make a donation to support the project, please hand your contribution in at Londis Post Office in Broad Haven. Cheques should be made payable to “Support The Boardwalk”.
