THE fundraising appeal to bring a Tamar class lifeboat to Angle has hit the £200,000 mark.

The appeal, which is being focused in the Birmingham area, is also expecting a big boost from a serious of events planned for spring and summer.

About £1million is needed to secure the Tamar and help the volunteer crew at Angle to save even more lives at sea.

Now RNLI fundraisers are calling on people in the area to get behind the appeal and attend Pembrokeshire's spring ball at Folly Farm on Saturday, May 19th.

With support from Chevron's Pembroke Refinery and Folly Farm in Begelly, the fair will be open and revellers will enjoy a delicious meal by Alfresco catering.

There will also be time to take part in a mystery fund-raising activity and be treated to some quality entertainment.

The ball begins at 7pm and tickets are on sale at £30 each, available by telephoning the ball secretary Tamzin Lewis on 07891400709. Each table will be for ten people and group bookings are also an option.

On Sunday, Paul Farrow, chief executive of Birmingham Law Society and Philip Steel, president of Birmingham Law Society, will visit the station at Angle.

The RNLI was adopted by Birmingham Law Society as its charity of the year during 2006, which led to Philip and several of his colleagues taking part in Dangle for Angle, a zip wire slide of fear' 35 metres from the top of the Fort Dunlop building next to the M6.

The Birmingham Law Society also pledged the proceeds of its annual awards dinner to the Lifeboat Appeal for Angle.

The fundraising proceeds of the evening generated a magnificent £3,500 which will have a further £1,000 of Gift Aid added to it.

Angle will be the second RNLI lifeboat station in Pembrokeshire to take delivery of a £2.5m Tamar class lifeboat.

The state-of-the-art lifeboat is expected to arrive in 2008.
