A delighted Elly Neville presented the winners of her Pembrokeshire flag with their prize at Withybush Hospital on Monday.

Five-year-old Elly raffled the prize-winning flag to raise money for the planned upgrade of cancer services at Withybush Hospital.

The cause is close to the youngster's heart, her father, Lyn, was a patient at the Chemotherapy Day Unit (CDU) and Ward 10 after a bone marrow transplant in 2005.

The flag has so far raised £2,348 and donations can still be made on Just Giving Ward 10 Flag or at any Pembrokeshire Branch of Barclays Bank by quoting Elly's Ward 10 Flag.

"I did the raffle to make money for the hospital because it would be nice and because they looked after my daddy," she said.

"I've had a lot of fun going round Pembrokeshire with the flag. I'm very pleased with how much money we've made."

The flag was won by Marilyn and Peter Mitchell from Pembroke Dock. They have said they would like the flag to continue to raise funds. A number of events are planned over the summer including a float at the Quinn's Carnival, Pembroke Dock and the UHB stand at the County Show.

"This is such a good cause," said Marilyn. "We desperately need this service for Withybush. Everybody can relate to someone on Ward 10, a relative or a friend."

Bernardine Rees, Chair of Hywel Dda University Health Board (UHB) said:

"We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the Pembrokeshire people and the support that they have given Elly with her fundraising campaign.

"All monies raised by Elly's campaign will be ring-fenced for the refurbishment and upgrade of cancer services at Ward 10 in Withybush Hospital."

She added that the UHB was 100% committed to the refurbishment and upgrade of cancer services at the hospital.
