A FORMER opera singer who moved to Pembrokeshire to realise her lifetime’s ambition to paint is exhibiting a variety of her works in Newport.

Self-taught artist Beth Robinson, who lives in the foothills of the Preselis and has a small studio and gallery in Fishguard, has brought a range of her paintings together including landscapes, seascapes and prints of hares and border collies.

Beth said: “This is a great opportunity to exhibit on my doorstep. The paintings in this exhibition are very much influenced by the colours and beauty of the Pembrokeshire landscape."

Beth was brought up in Chepstow, although both her parents were from Pembrokeshire. She graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music before embarking on a career in opera.

She retired from singing in the late 1990s and found the landscapes and seascapes of her ancestral home provoked an emotional response in her work.

Her work hangs on walls in countries all over the world with requests for commissions coming for places as diverse as New Zealand, Hong Kong and the United States of America.

Last summer Beth exhibited at Picton Castle and was commissioned to paint a large work to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Pembroke refinery, which was unveiled by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in November.

Beth’s summer exhibition will be at the Newport National Park Visitor Centre until August 24.
