DESPITE poor weather conditions, enthusiasm was running high for Sunday’s Tenby 10k.

A record number of around 600 runners took part in the event, which started in the town’s St Julian Street and followed a route which took in the Esplanade and Penally before returning to Tudor Square.

The popular run is organised by TROTs running club, and race director Ann Rowell said: “People were very keen this year. The race sold out, so 50 contestants actually took part without numbers.”

Wet and windy weather - which almost blew the lead cyclist over on the Esplanade - failed to dampen the spirit of the runners, who were cheered back into Tudor Square by spectators.

The first male home was Marc Hobbs from Swansea Harriers with a time of 32.29, while Amie Fithern from Tipton Harries was the first female in 38.26. They both won a holiday prize from Bluestone.

One of the furthest-travelled competitors was Marina Kunz from Zurich who won the open female category, with Carol Parsons claiming female 35; Helen Jones female 45 and Dawn Kenwright female 55.

Ian Williams won the open male section, with Richard Gardiner winning male 40; Peter Osborne male 50 and Alan Davies male 60.

The race is sponsored by Bluestone and W.P. Lewis & Son, Vauxhall.

The race organisers also thanked Pembrokeshire County Council, police, St John Ambulance, Matt and Chris from Tenby harbour, Tri Exercise, Tesco, Tenby House, Tenby Leisure Centre and all the marshals for their help in ensuring the safe running of the event.
