A RETIRED senior legal officer for Pembrokeshire County Council died after suffering head injuries from a fall, an inquest heard last Thursday, August 27.

Retired former head of legal services for Pembrokeshire County Council, Huw Owen Jones, 65, died at Withybush hospital on March 29 after earlier being admitted following a fall at his home the previous day.

At last Thursday’s inquest, Coroner’s Officer for Dyfed Powys Police Jeremy Davies said Mr Jones, of Hook, a former member of Hook Community Council, had suffered a heart attack at the age of 55, but had made a full recovery.

During Christmas 2014, Mr Jones was hospitalised for two weeks with heart issues.

He was later found to be suffering from lung cancer, but he had not been informed of this, the inquest was told.

The inquest heard Mr Jones had collapsed several times, falling as he left his car on March 19; leading to a neighbour calling emergency services, and fell out of the car again on March 27.

At 6am on March 28, Mr Jones complained to his wife of a raging headache, taking tablets to relieve the pain.

The inquest heard Mrs Jones heard a loud thumping from the bathroom several minutes later, finding Mr Jones collapsed on the floor.

Mrs Jones attempted to make him more comfortable but his condition deteriorated as they waited for the ambulance to take him to Withybush hospital.

It was found his recovery was unlikely due to the malignant lung cancer; Mr Jones passing away at 9.30pm on March 29 at Withybush.

A post-mortem report by Dr Petna Nadiva found Mr Jones suffered an extensive haemorrhage after the fall.

Concluding HM Coroner Mark Layton said: “Mr Jones was in poor health, he suffered a fall sustaining a head injury resulting in his death. Mr Jones died as a result of an accident.”
