FISHGUARD port received the final cruise ship call of the season at the weekend.

Hebridean Princess was welcomed into port on Sunday, August 30, carrying 42 passengers and 45 crew members.

Her visit brings the total number of cruise ship calls to Fishguard this year to seven.

Passengers disembarked early afternoon, and enjoyed a trip to St Davids, while some of the crew explored Fishguard and Goodwick. They were all later entertained by local singers Bois Y Wlad.

Known as a boutique vessel, Hebridean Princess is 71m in length and was originally a ferry built for David MacBrayne Ltd but became a luxury ship in 1989. The Queen has chartered the vessel a couple of times, including for her 80th birthday.

The captain, Trevor Bailey used to live in Newport, Pembrokeshire. He was welcomed into Fishguard by the Mayor.

Captain Bailey commented on how nice it was to be back in home waters.

He said: “Having lived in Newport for a time and worked for Stena Line from Fishguard and other ports, it was particularly special to be guided in by my former colleague and long-standing friend Captain Richard Davies. We both started at Sealink at the same time in 1988 and we have stayed friends and colleagues since then.”

Hebridean Princess departed early on Monday morning for her onward journey of Holyhead, Isle of Man and Belfast.
