THE inaugural 'Swim to the edge' in Solva proved a huge success as more than 200 swimmers braved difficult conditions.

In inclement weather, competitors opted to take part in either the Green Monster (1.9 miles) or Black Run (0.8 miles), with everyone setting off and finishing at Solva Harbour.

The event was the latest addition to a series of annual Man-Up Uk events, organised by Fintan Godkin and Carwyn Richards.

And like other Man-Up events, athletes travelled from all over the UK to take part, with the husband and wife combination of Nick and Nichola Murch the male and female winners of the longer swim.

Nick, from Romford in London, clocked 40:40, ahead of second placed Jake Jenkins (44:22) and Pembrokeshire Swim Club's David Thompson (44:45).

Nichola meanwhile, was fifth home overall in 46:57.

The shorter swim was won by James Hollis (17:24), ahead of Huw Cooke (18:06) and Jessie Blain (19:05).

All proceeds from the day were donated to the RNLI Boat House Appeal and Porthmawr Surf Lifesaving Club (SLSC), and afterwards, Fintan thanked everyone who helped make the event a success - namely Ifor Thomas of the Edge festival, the St Davids RNLI, Stephen Rees, Rhys Price of Voyages of Discovery, Mal Brown and Porthmawr SLSC, Dick Morgan, and all those who helped marshal via kayaks and boats.
