Pennar Robins 1.
Pendine 0.
DEAN Busby's timely second-half winner earned Pennar Robins cup victory over gritty Pendine at the Bridge Meadow last Wednesday evening.
The chirpy Robins had already sewn up the league, and winning the cup ensured they completed the coveted double.
Remarkably the Robins have gone the whole season unbeaten, which is an incredible feat. In the league campaign they have won 24 games and drawn two, and they have won every round of the cup, putting the icing on their cake in an unforgettable season.
It was a very tight affair in the first period, as neither side created any clear cut scoring opportunities.
The best chance of the half, fell to Pennar's Matthew Jones, whose firm header flew agonisingly over the crossbar.
Shortly after the interval the Robins finally broke the deadlock. Man of the final, left-sided midfielder Paul Lowe, ghosted past at least four defenders before unselfishly realising Busby, the latter wasted little time in drilling the ball underneath on-rushing goalkeeper Adam Clapperton.
In the 75th minute Pennar keeper Daniel Roberts produced a stunning save to deny Pendine's striker Robbie Waters from getting an equaliser.
Robins' striker Stuart James should have put the result beyond doubt in the 85th minute, but his poor lob went well wide of the target.
At the death, Darren Rees was issued a straight red card by referee Steve Williams. The Pendine defender deliberately hacked-down Stuart James, on the edge of the 18-yard box, destroying a goal scoring opportunity and with it any chance that Pendine had of causing an upset.
Delighted Pennar boss, Chris Lloyd, said: "This win has capped a brilliant season, and next season I'm really looking forward to the lads playing in the first division."
