PEMBROKESHIRE played host to a highlight of the horticultural calendar last Friday (September 18).

Some 200 guests representing all parts of Wales gathered in Wolfscastle Country Hotel for the 2015 Wales in Bloom awards ceremony.

They were treated to a three course meal and performances by Goodwick Brass Band Ensemble and pupils from Wolfscastle School.

Local Rev Geoffrey Eynon said Wolfscastle was delighted to welcome everyone back after being chosen to host the awards ceremony 10 years ago.

He said: “It has been a tremendous year for the village.

“Back in the spring we were proud to host the launch of the 2015 Wales in Bloom competition in the presence of a number of distinguished guests.

“In July we were judged for this year’s competition and in August we were proud to represent the whole of Wales in the Britain in Bloom competition.”

The Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Councillor Wynne Evans said: “It’s quite appropriate that we are here in Wolfscastle. The village has won the small village category 10 times and had a gold award in the Britain in Bloom competition, which is a stunning achievement.

“I know you take great pride in what I call a gem in Pembrokeshire.”

Pembrokeshire did very well in the awards, with Wolfscastle securing first place in the small village category, Tenby winning the best coastal resort of up to 12,000 people, and the town’s Giltar Hotel winning the hotels, guest houses, public houses and restaurants (frontage only) category.

Saundersfoot claimed third place in the best large village, while there were also awards for Amroth Bay Holidays and Lydstep Beach Village in the caravan site categories.

Wolfscastle School received a certificate of recognition for its school garden.
