A DEDICATED group of volunteers came together at Clynfyw Care Farm in Abercych on Friday, September 25 to show their support to Syrian refugees.

They loaded almost five tonnes of donated clothing into a container, which will be shipped off to help the refugees in Greece.

“It was an incredible effort,” said Clynfyw's Jane White.

“Not just from the people here today, but from those as far as Milford Haven, Fishguard, Carmarthen, even as far as Ludlow, who have collected and brought in tents, coats, toiletries, dried food and clothing.

“This container load will be heading off to Kos Kindness in Greece in the next week. They support tens of thousands of refugees on Kos and also Lesbos and other Greek islands.

“Working with a number of community-based groups across south Wales, there is almost enough donated items to fill a second container at Clynfyw already.”

It costs around £5,000 to buy and ship a container to Greece and Clynfyw is hoping to send the next one to Turkey or Syria, where the need is even greater.

Jane added: “The support we have had from our community is amazing, but this is an on-going campaign. If anyone would like to help with sourcing equipment, loading and filling the containers or fundraising, please contact Clynfyw through the Facebook page.”
