PUPILS at Ysgol Croesgoch travelled back to 1939 last Thursday (October 1) to experience what life was like for an evacuee during the Second World War.

Years 5 and 6 received an urgent warning from the local air raid patrol warden that it was unsafe to stay in the village, so they evacuated with their teachers and members of the Croesgoch Heritage Group to Fishguard.

Here the pupils ate a war time lunch and were lucky enough to use their ration books in Y Siop Fach Losin to buy some sweets. They then set off to Whitland by train, followed by a visit to the Carew Cheriton Control Tower, where local volunteers explained the valuable role the control tower played during both World Wars.

All pupils enjoyed the experience, but were delighted to be reunited with their parents at the end of the day.
