Hakin

MR Peter Johnson of St Anne’s, Hakin, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on October 4. He was 68.

Pete was born and brought up in Milford Haven. He was the only son of John and Dorothy Johnson, with two sisters Penny Lloyd Jones now living in Australia, and Sue Kenny of Hakin.

After school, Pete began Agricultural Engineering but had to change direction due to the onset of epilepsy .He started working at Milford Haven Travel Agency, which he subsequently took over from Austin Davies in 1983 and ran successfully until the onset of Parkinsons Disease forced him to retire in 2006.

Pete married Anne in 1976 and they settled in Hakin, where their two sons Mark and Richard were born and brought up. The family moved back to St Anne’s after Pete’s father died, to care for his mother Dorothy.

Pete had been a member of Milford Haven Round Table, Old Priory Lodge, Milford Haven Rotary Club, 41 Club as well as a longstanding member of Pembrokeshire Yacht Club from where he both sailed and ran the safety boat for many years.

Apart from his family, Pete’s greatest love was for his motor boat and was a familiar sight on the harbour during the summer, taking groups of friends to Thorne Island or enjoying family barbecues at Great Castle Head.

Latterly, Pete was a member of the Pembrokeshire Branch of Parkinson’s UK and attended their weekly meetings at the Hope Centre, where he found much support and friendship, coping with his problems with fortitude and retaining his wellknown sense of humour.

The high regard in which Pete was held was shown by the very large attendance at a service to celebrate his life, which was held at St Katharine and St Peter’s Church on October 14. The private family cremation having taken place on October 8.

The service was officiated by Father Harri Williams and the eulogy given by Roger Howells, Pete’s cousin and lifelong friend.

Left to mourn are Anne, Mark and Vicky, Richard and Rhian; grandchildren Morgan, Robert, Simon and Oscar, sisters Penny and Sue and their families, and brother- in-law William and family.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu of flowers to be shared between Hakin Point branch of RNLI, Pembrokeshire Branch of Parkinson’s UK and Crossroads Care. If desired these can be sent to Mr Roger Howells, Broadoaks, Lower Freystrop, Haverfordwest SA62 4ET.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, Milford Haven.

 

Mr D J Thomas

Kilgetty

MR David John Thomas of Station Road, Kilgetty passed away on September 30 at his home. He was 72.

David was born in Penrhiw, Kilgetty in 1943, and he attended Stepaside C P School then Narberth Grammar School.

David went on to serve his apprenticeship in the Co-op butchery department prior to becoming manager there.

He then bought Bridge Stores in Kilgetty, which he ran successfully with his wife Ann for 42 years. He was always fondly known as ‘Dai the Butch’. He retired six years ago.

His main interests were football, rugby, golf and ROAB Club.

The family left to mourn are Ann Julie Thomas (wife); John (son); Julie (daughter); Ron (son-in-law); Emily, Lowri, Thomas and Honor (grandchildren); Violet and Peggy (sisters); Peter (brother and Audrey (sister-in-law); John, Phillip, Kevin, William, Steven (nephews), plus their families and many family friends and neighbours too numerous to mention.

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on October 17 and was officiated by Father Owen McGreal.

The bearers were Alan Holt, Tony Ormond, John Dougmor, Clive Thomas, Micky Marsh, Mike Carpenter.

Donations to Saundersfoot Medical Centre, if so desired c/o E C Thomas and Son, Zoar Chapel Funeral Home, Llanteg, Narberth SA67 8QH who carried out the funeral arrangements.

 

Mrs A Barnes

Kilgetty

A celebration of the life of Annette took place on November 16 at Parc Gwyn following her passing on November 3 after a short period of ill health at the young age of 55.

Annette was born in Kilgetty and lived there for the majority of her life surrounded by friends and family.

Annette was the youngest daughter of Rose Lillian Howells and the late Edgar Howells and beloved sister to Wallace, Heather and the late Gillian.

Annette was a devoted wife to Keith and a mother that spent her life encouraging her children to be independent and to have strong morals and clear family values.

Annette had a long battle with illness throughout her life, however she always looked on the bright side of life and fought to win many battles. An inspirational lady with a heart of gold she never stopped laughing or enjoying her time with family and friends.

Annette had a zest for life that all of her friends and family will hold close, she will always live on in our hearts.

There were family flowers only, with donation as desired for the Paul Satori Foundation c/o E C Thomas and Sons, Zoar Chapel, Llanteg who conducted the service arrangements.

 

Mr R Williams

Pembroke

The funeral took place at Monkton Priory Church on October 29 of Mr Reginald Williams, who passed away peacefully with his family around him at his home, Bexhill, Golden Hill Road Pembroke on October 18.

There was a large attendance at the church service, which was officiated by Rev Paul Nash, Rector of The Monkton Benefice.

The bearers were David Street, Terry Williams, Phil Lloyd, Steven Lloyd, George Palmer and David Brinn, who carried Reg into the church accompanied by the Pembroke and District Male Voice Choir singing “Bring Him Home”.

Mr Phil Lloyd, a good family friend and the Secretary of the Male Voice Choir read the eulogy and paid tribute to Reg’s life by repeating anecdotes from his time with his family, his working life and his life with the choir, which reflected his sense of fun and outlook on life.

His granddaughter Rhian Sleight, read the lesson.

The service in church was followed by a committal service at Parc Gwyn where again, the choir sang.

Reg was a very popular and well-known postman in Pembroke.

He was born in Orange Gardens and later lived in Monkton.

At 14 years of age, straight from school, Reg joined the Post Office as a Telegram Boy.

He carried out his National Service in the Royal Engineers, stationed at the army post office in London.

On his demob he came back to Pembroke Dock Post Office where he stayed until he retired 50 years later.

He married his wife Kathleen, who he met when he delivered a telegram for her birthday, and they were lucky to celebrate their diamond wedding in September.

Reg was so proud of his congratulations card from the Queen.

Kathleen, his two daughters, Cheryl and Janette, sons in law Martin and David as well as his three grandchildren Robert, Rhian and Jamie survive him.

In addition to his work with the Post Office he was also a talented sign writer.

Before he had problems with his vision he had lettered most of the shops, vans and Church boards in the area; some of his earlier work is still on display within Bosherston Church where he wrote the Ten Commandments.

Reg was a member of Pembroke and District Male Voice choir for 46 years.

He loved the Choir and they did him proud at his funeral singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “The Lord’s Prayer” as well as forming a Guard of Honour for him to leave the Church.

When Reg retired he became a member of Probus and enjoyed the companionship at the monthly meetings and participating in various trips.

He was also an active member of Monkton Historical Society and was delighted to participate in their latest book “Through My Eyes”

where he has a chapter dedicated to him called “The Best Job in the World”.

In this he shared photographs of his time on the post and talked about how the job used to be.

Principal mourners were his wife Kathleen; Cheryl and Martin, Janette and David (daughters and sons-in-law); Robert, Rhian and Jamie (grandchildren); Pauline Street, Dorothy Street (sisters- in-law); Terry and Sue Williams, David and Judy Roblin, Trudy Roblin, and Terry Panton (cousins) and all his nephews and nieces.

He will be sadly missed by all the very many people who knew him or had come into contact with him over the years.

There were family flowers only with donations for Paul Sartori and The Macmillan Nurses can be made to John Roberts and Son, Funeral Directors, 51, Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, SA72 6AN, who professionally arranged the funeral.

 

Mr C N Russell

Milford Haven

MR Craig Nelson Russell (Jake) passed away peacefully at home with his wife and his family on November 3.

He was 60.

During his life he worked mainly in the construction industry.

He served 15 years in the RAF.

His main interests were his family gatherings with his grandchildren, friends and his faithful dog Jack.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Wendy (wife); Alison and Fredo (stepdaughter and sonin- law); Stephanie and Jamie (step daughter and son-in-law); Anthony and Nicola (step son and partner); Marie, Josephine, Pierric, Gracie, Dakota, Leighton, Mac, Yorii, Marnee, Renee (grandchildren), and other family members.

The funeral service was held at Hamilton Court Funeral Home followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn on November 9.

It was officiated by Canon John Davies.

The bearers were Anthony Hubbuck, Jamie Yeomans, Fredo Lejuez, Pierric Lejuez, Chris Aldridge.
