A LEGAL high addict believes the ghost of a dead ex-girlfriend is inside him - and that Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw wants to have sex with her ghost, a court heard today.

The bizarre claims were made by Louise Smith, another ex-girlfriend of Shaun McGuire, 31, of Woodbine Way, Milford Haven, in a report she gave to police.

She also said McGuire once tried to hire a car with the intention of driving to London to kill the X-Factor host, and he believed people on the radio and TV were talking to him.

The Western Telegraph was the only newspaper at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Wednesday, January 6, where McGuire appeared to be sentenced for assaulting Ms Smith and damaging the bannisters of her stairs.

He pleaded guilty to the charges at an earlier court appearance, and the case was adjourned for pre-sentence reports.

Ms Smith’s victim statement, read out by prosecutor Ellie Morgan, outlined how her five-year relationship with McGuire had begun to deteriorate during the last two years, when the defendant became hooked on smoking legal highs.

She said McGuire had caused herself and her family great distress.

“He was married to the legal highs more than he was committed to me,” said Ms Smith.

“My parents were on the verge of turning their backs on me because of him. He needs help with his addiction. This is what triggers the domestic violence. I tried to get him help but he wouldn’t keep appointments or take any medication.”

She requested a restraining order against the defendant, which magistrates granted for a two year period.

“McGuire wasn’t living with Ms Smith at the time of the incident, but had entered her house through the back door,” Ms Morgan said.

“She told him the relationship was over, and she couldn’t cope with his aggression and addiction.

He said he’d change, and promised he wouldn’t let her down.”

The pair spent the evening together, but the following morning Ms Smith found packets of legal highs in McGuire’s jeans pocket and discovered he’d smoked some downstairs while she had been asleep.

“She put the packets in her handbag and confronted him,” Ms Morgan said.

“She called him a liar, but he was only interested in what she had done with his legal highs.

She said she’d thrown them away, and he started grabbing at her, shouting at her to give them back.

He admits he assaulted her by trying to pull her back in to the house when she tried to leave.

The bannister was damaged when she held on to it and he pulled her.”

Defence solicitor Michael Kellegher said McGuire had not contacted Ms Jones since the assault and said he agreed with the recommendations of the pre-sentence report.

Magistrates sentenced McGuire to an 18 month community order, with a rehabilitation requirement, and suggested he be referred to the Dyfed Drug and Alcohol Service.

He was also ordered to pay, with £75 compensation to Ms Jones, an £80 fine and costs of £165.
