A PEMBROKESHIRE sand artist has paid a unique tribute to his music idol David Bowie.

Marc Treanor from Dinas was devastated when he heard the news of the 69 year-old singer’s death last Sunday.

“David Bowie has been a constant inspiration to me throughout my life from the time I was first aware of him back in 1975 as a 12 year-old boy,” he said.

“It was not until I was 18 that I understood how powerfully intelligent and rich his music and images were. I devoured every album and followed his moves through the music and performance world.”

Marc, who has seen Bowie perform live three times in the UK, decided to pay tribute by recreating his latest album cover, Blackstar, in a sand circle at his favourite beach in Mwnt, near Cardigan.

He said: “Blackstar has proved to be eerily uncanny in its exploration of his own demise and to me, it is the mark of a true artist to incorporate their own death into a final piece of work.

“So many words have been written since his death a week ago and I think the significance Bowie had on people’s lives is only just emerging and will continue to do so over the coming months.”

Marc created his first sand circle with his children on a beach in Cornwall about eight years ago, and what started as a hobby is rapidly turning into a job, with commissions, shows, exhibitions and beach workshops.
