A HGV driver from Tenby has become a TV star thanks to his video of a fellow trucker's struggle to clear a low bridge.

Darren Gibson was forced to wait for an articulated lorry to try to get under the bridge in near Clarbeston Road, so he started filming on his mobile phone.

He gives a running commentary on the images, which will be shown on ITV's Car Crash Britain: Caught on Camera on February 2.

As the other driver gets out to check the space, Darren can be heard saying: "He thinks he's going to get under. I don't think he's going to get under at all!"

When Darren, sees the driver is going ahead, he tries to warn him he is making a mistake - to no avail.

Viewers can then see - and hear - the top of the lorry's trailer scraping the underside of the bridge.

Darren, who was born in Scotland, can also he heard, saying: "I warned him several times. I don't think he understands Scottish."

The driver, who isn't identified, got out to inspect the damage - but still has one more go.

He eventually gives up and reverses, hitting the bridge again in the process.

And because it took place on a narrow road, the driver had to reverse more than two miles to find another route.

Darren told the programme-makers: "Maybe he was wanting to go for his lunch or something, but it was the wrong way to go about it.

"He was a bit of a numpty. Not in a million years would you get under it in an artic. It's just not going to happen."

It's not known how much damage was done to the lorry or the bridge during the incident in December 2014.

"It's an experience I won't forget in a hurry”, said Darren.

"I have been driving for nearly seven years and you see a lot of crazy stuff nearly every day of the week."

There are two episodes of Car Crash Britain: Caught on Camera looking at crashes, crime and confrontations across the UK, with dramatic video and interviews with victims and eyewitnesses.
