TWO cadets from Milton and Dyffryn have been appointed as the Lord-Lieutenant of Dyfed’s cadets at an awards ceremony in Carmarthen.

Cadet Warrant Officer David Folder and Leading Cadet Charlie Mustoe were given a distinctive sash with the badge of their appointment for 2016, which will last for one year.

David and Charlie, 18 and 16 respectively, were selected for the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet role after being put forward for nomination by cadet group leaders and the Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association for Wales.

The role includes attendance with Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Dyfed who acts as the Queen’s representative, at a number of official engagements, including remembrance events, Royal visits and parades.

The ceremony was one of the last public engagements conducted by The Hon Robin Lewis OBE CStJ, who will step down on his 75th birthday next week. The Vice Lord-Lieutenant Sara Edwards will become the new Lord-Lieutenant of Dyfed.

David, an Air Cadet with 1284 (Tenby) Squadron, said: “I was extremely pleased to be appointed Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet. It’s a great honour to be chosen. I wasn’t expecting it, it was a very nice surprise and as far as I know, I’m the first from my squadron to be picked.

“I’ve spoken to the previous Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets and I’m really looking forward to following in their footsteps, especially the civil engagements and it will be great to work with the new Lord-Lieutenant as well.”

Charlie has immersed himself in all-aspects of Sea Cadet life since joining TS Skirmisher in Fishguard.

Ysgol Bro Gwaun pupil Charlie said: “I was delighted really because I didn’t know anything about it. I’m quite looking forward to representing the area at Remembrance Day, which should be very interesting and an honour. I hope to go in to the Royal Navy and Cadets is preparing me for that, it’s changed my life so much.”
