HAVERFORDWEST fire crews were called to a property on Dew Street at 8.42pm on Thursday evening after a carbon monoxide alarm was sounded.

Firefighters responded by using two breathing apparatus to ventilate the property while the occupants were assessed by paramedics.

The occupants were advised to leave the property and were provided with a new carbon monoxide alarm by the fire service.

Firefighters remained at the property until 9.28pm.

Following a number of incidents involving carbon monoxide, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service have issued safety advice.

Home Fire Safety Manager Adrian Smith said: “Carbon monoxide is a highly poisonous gas that has no colour, taste or smell.

"Fuel burning appliances such as stoves, fires, boilers and water heaters can produce carbon monoxide if they are incorrectly fitted, badly repaired or poorly maintained or if flues, chimneys or vents are blocked.

"Gas, oil and solid fuels such as coal, coke and wood can all produce carbon monoxide.

Too many people die needlessly or become seriously ill because of carbon monoxide poisoning each year; early symptoms can easily be mistaken for flu or tiredness”.
