BEING told you have stage four ovarian cancer would prompt most people to take it easy - but not 62 year-old Lyn Roberts.

Lyn, from Treffynnon, is about undergo a radical hysterectomy and a second round of chemotherapy.

But instead of focussing on herself, Lyn is putting all her efforts into the Time for Teal fundraising project, which combines her desire to raise money for Target Ovarian Cancer and awareness of the symptoms.

“I’m not the sort to lay in bed and recover,” said Lyn.

“I need my mind to be active and to feel I am achieving something which will be positive among all the negative rubbish going on.”

Lyn, who loves to knit and crochet, is hoping to raise money by having some special knit and crochet patterns designed.

She has set up a crowdfunding page to buy wool, have it specially dyed teal (the official colour of World Ovarian Cancer Day), then create kits which can be sold in wool shops all over the country. Each kit would contain a flyer with the symptoms of ovarian cancer.

“The more women we reach with the information about symptoms the more women can be saved,” said Lyn.

“If I can prompt just one woman to go to her doctor it will be worth it.

“When a women is diagnosed at the earliest stage, her chance of surviving ovarian cancer for five years or more goes from 46 per cent to more than 90 per cent.”

Lyn is hoping to buy the wool in March, have it packed for the big project launch in April, and ready for World Ovarian Cancer Day on May 8.

Her crowdfunding page has already raised close to £1,500. To show your support visit: https://www.gofundme.com/timeforteal

Lyn’s previous fundraiser saw a large collection of scarves suspended from the ceiling of St David’s Cathedral and a projection of Isadora’s Flying Colours in celebration of women who have survived and lost their lives to ovarian cancer.
