A concert in memory of former Fishguard and Goodwick mayor, Mike Lloyd, has raised around £2,500 for Cancer Research Wales.

Community stalwart Cllr Lloyd, died peacefully at his Goodwick home in October last year.

The 77-year-old was hugely involved in the Fishguard and Goodwick community as well as the town council. He played a role within the town's Friendship Circle, Hillside Home League of Friends, the Lions, Buffs, and WHIST Bro Gwaun.

He was a member of the Buffs for 45 years and president of Fishguard and Goodwick Lions Club.

Last year Cllr Lloyd had booked the Dyffryn Tywi Male Voice Choir to play at the Lions annual charity concert.

Sadly he did not survive to see the concert he had helped to plan but his legacy was continued by his widow Rhian and friend Gwyneth Evans.

As well as the choir, singers Lilwen and Gwenda and soprano Clare Harrison featured in the event, MCed by Canon Dorian Davies.

Around 140 people attended on Saturday night; ticket sales a raffle and a charity auction, run by Mr. Edward Perkins, raised a total of around £2,500.

"It was absolutely brilliant," said Mrs Lloyd. "It was an excellent evening and everybody has been really positive about it.

"It was all great, Canon Dorian was exceptional, the Bay Hotel was excellent and it raised a lot of money.

"Mike would be over the moon. It was a sad evening in a way but it was a fitting tribute. I'm glad that we've done it."

Next month will see a walking football tournament in Cllr Lloyd's memory played at Stop and Call football pitch.

Members of Goodwick Youth Club have recently been successful in securing funding for a new goalpost for the pitch from Pembrokeshire Youth Bank.

On Sunday May 1st from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00pm the Mike Lloyd Walking Football Memorial Tournament will be held in recognition Cllr Lloyd's commitment to developing activities and events that brought people of all ages together.
