A MAN who tried to save his dog after it fell from a cliff had to be winched to safety by a rescue helicopter yesterday (Saturday).

Tenby’s RNLI all-weather lifeboat Haydn Miller was launched at about 12.45pm following a report that a man was stuck on a cliff near Broadhaven.

He had climbed down to attempt to rescue his dog that had fallen off.

The dog sadly died.

Units also tasked were Tenby and St Govans Coastguard and Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 187.

The volunteer crew were soon on the water and made best speed to the area.

Once on scene, the crew spotted the casualty clinging to the cliff around 20ft from the bottom of the cliff. The Y boat was then launched and a crew member was put ashore to make contact with the casualty and reassure him that help was on its way.

The rescue helicopter was soon on scene.

They lowered the winch man to retrieve both the casualty and the dog, up to the top of the cliff where they were met by the Coastguard teams.
