Signed rugby shirts, a self-catering holiday and works of art were just some of the lots snapped up in a charity auction on Saturday, raising £3,600 funds for pioneering medical treatment for local woman, Abbie Dunn.

In the middle of May Abbie, 22, will travel to Jacksonville, Florida, for a course of Proton Beam Therapy to treat Craniopharyngioma, a rare brain tumour. She will stay there, with her mother Helen, for two months, receiving daily treatment over six weeks.

Abbie, from Fishguard, underwent ten-hour surgery in October 2013 to remove part of a walnut-sized tumour.

However on her 22nd birthday, last February, she received the devastating news that the tumour had started to grow again. She was advised her best course of treatment would be to travel to the States for proton beam therapy.

The trip will cost in the region of £10,000 and friends and family have rallied to raise the cash. Any leftover funds will be used to help families in a similar situation.

Saturday's auction was held at the Fishguard Bay Hotel where Abbie used to work and where her grandmother is still a member of staff. Hotel employees have raised a further £2,600 to help Abbie.

"It was a great night," said Abbie's mum Helen. "Everybody enjoyed it and there was a great atmosphere.

"The Bay staff worked really hard to raise funds for Abbie as well. Their kindness and support has been really wonderful."

"The fund raising that has gone on has helped to keep Abbie's spirits up. There has been so much support with so many people stepping in to help.

"A huge thank you again to an amazing community for all the terrific support over the last few weeks. They have all helped make it possible for Abbie to have treatment abroad and very promising future health."
