WRU Women's Leagues Division Two
Haverfordwest 14-15 Ynysybwl
HAVERFORDWEST Ladies' promotion hopes were dealt a major blow on Sunday after they were beaten at home by title rivals Ynysybwl.
Both teams went into the game unbeaten in Division Two, with Haverfordwest knowing a win would guarantee promotion.
The Blues made a good start with captain Nina Colville crossing for a try and Joanna Price converting - but Ynysybwl kept in touch with a penalty.
And it was the visitors who came out fighting in the second half, with a series of pick and drives resulting in a try.
Haverfordwest responded immediately with a Delyth Foster try, with Price again adding the extra two points.
However, that effort was cancelled out when a determined Ynysybwl powered over for their second try.
Haverfordwest pressed in the dying minutes, but it proved too little too late for the home team, who looked out of sorts and failed to hit the high stndards they have maintained for most of this season.
Coach Gareth Charles afterwards that the result "up there with one of the most disappointing rugby days" he has experienced in rugby.
Haverfordwest do have the chance to redeem themselves on May 15 when the fixture is repeated at Ynysybwl, with the winners taking the league title and promotion.
Haverfordwest Ladies squad: Katy Lewis, Maria Phillips, Kate Allen, Emma Evans, Awen Prysor, Ceri Coleman-Phillips, Clodagh Llewhellin, Delyth Foster, Nina Colville, Sophie Rees, Joanna Price, Stephanie Harris, Jess Charles, Emily Carrington, Jayde Thomas, Emily Banner, Mona Jones.
