The occasion was marked by the presence of Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council Cllr Tony Brinsden, and his wife, and he presented Edna Thomas with a beautiful basket of flowers.

Numerous gifts, flowers and cards were received, including a Royal Card Special Delivery from Her Majesty the Queen, signed Elizabeth R; a birthday card from First Minister Carwyn Jones AM,and a telegram from Stephen Crabb MP, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.

Members and children of Mount Zion Chapel, Hook Gospel Mission, and St Jerome’s Church, Llangwm, also sent their good wishes.

A violin recital was performed at the party by Ellie Chapman, aged 10 years, supported by her sister, Megan, aged eight years.

Edna Thomas was born in Haverfordwest, but moved away at the age of two to South East Wales.

During the Second World War, Edna served as a physiotherapist nurse in the Women’s Royal Air Force.

She returned to live in Pembrokeshire later in life, after marrying Harold Thomas, a native of Hook, and a retired headmaster, with who she had maintained a long-distance relationship for 20 years.

Sadly, Edna was widowed after two years of marriage, but remained living in Hook for 40 years, supported by family, friends, neighbours, and carers until moving to Williamston Care Home.

Edna was an active member of Mount Zion Chapel, and the community in Hook, and her many friends continue to provide her regular support.

She always maintains a positive outlook on life, and considers that her longevity is due to good genes, eating well, and a sense of humour.
