A missing person appeal has been launched following the disappearance of an Irish Ferries crew member.

Dyfed-Powys Police is searching for 29-year-old Marian Neagu, who was last seen at around 12 noon on board the Irish Ferry that docked at Pembroke Dock on Thursday, May 26.

Police are continuing with their enquiries to locate Marian and are appealing to members of the public for their assistance in locating him.

Marian is Romanian, 5 feet 7 inches tall, average build and has dark hair.

He is believed to have been wearing civilian clothing, but a description is not available at this time.

A major air and sea search for the missing crew member, launched on Thursday, has been suspended.

There wer efears he had fallen overboard as the ferry approached Pembrokeshire.

The search, involving the Angle and St Davids lifeboats, plus Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 187 was carried out until darkness fell on Thursday.

An Irish Ferries spokesman told the BBC: "He was last seen as the ship was entering the port and then it was on the return leg he failed to take up his position.

"We just don't know where he is. Technically speaking it is possible that he walked off in Pembroke - it brings hope obviously because Irish Ferries are quite distressed.

"This is the first time in my memory for a crewman to go missing."

On Thursday, a spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "HM Coastguard has been coordinating a search off the Pembrokeshire coast today for a crew-member of a ferry who may have gone overboard late this morning.

"The UK Coastguard St Athan helicopter has been involved in the search for the missing man, along with the Weston Super Mare and Angle lifeboats and two lifeboats from St Davids."

A post on the St Davids RNLI Facebook page, said: "Our Tamar was tasked at 17:08 to help with the search of a missing crew man off an Irish Ferries ferry en route from Rosslare to Pembroke Dock.

"As we had enough crew available we also launched our Tyne. Also involved with the search were Angle ALB and ILB, Little and Broadhaven ILB, Dyfed Powys Police vessel Mike 66 and rescue helicopter R 187 with Milford Haven Coastguard coordinating the whole operation.

"An extensive search was carried out offshore and inshore by all assets involved with unfortunately nothing found.

"Our search was called off as the light was fading and both our boats were back at station at 10pm."

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Marian, is asked to contact police in Pembroke Dock immediately by calling 101 quoting reference DP-20160526-246.
