Elly's Ward 10 Flag Appeal passed the £25,000 mark last week and the fund has been used to purchase the first piece of equipment for Withybush Hospital’s cancer ward.

The fund is to improve patient, visitor and staff environment and experience on the ward.

“Thank you to everyone who has helped, donated, supported, encouraged or done anything to get this amazing total,” said Elly’s father, Lyn Neville.

“This is an amazing total considering the very first aim was to reach just £50 for Ward 10.”

Six-year-old Elly visited Ward 10 last Wednesday, June 22, to see the first piece of new equipment for Ward 10 which has been purchased with money from Elly's Appeal.

The Sara Steady - enhanced standing aid was chosen by Ward Sister Helen Johns as being a very important piece of equipment to help patients and staff.

The item cost a total of £1,017. Hywel Dda Health Charities and Hywel Dda Health Board have thanked Elly's Appeal and all its supporters for this landmark step to support Ward 10.

The appeal continues to gather apace with £1,000 recently donated from Persimmon Homes’ West Wales Community Champions scheme.

Sharon Robinson, sales director for Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “We were really impressed by the efforts and imagination of Elly’s Ward 10 Flag Appeal and we felt it was important we contributed in any way we could.

“It is for such a good cause and the reaction of the people in and around Pembrokeshire shows how close it is to their heart.”
