Pembrokeshire Housing Association has withdrawn a planning application to build 42 homes in Neyland.

On Monday evening over 80 Neyland residents attended a meeting chaired by County Councillor Paul Miller to express their concern for the proposed construction on the old infants school site off Charles Street.

Since the meeting, Cllr Miller said that the application has been removed to allow more time for discussion with the local community.

“I look forward to those discussions and am absolutely committed to ensuring local people's voices are heard,” he said.

During Monday’s meeting, residents voted in favour of allowing work to go ahead on the derelict buildings that currently exist, but unanimously agreed that green space should be protected.

“This is a space that children can currently use without being close to main roads or homes, so they have freedom to kick a ball without the risk of causing damage to cars or homes,” said Neyland resident Maria Walters.

Concerns were also raised about the allocation of houses for people from outside the area as well as the lack of school space.

“I will be pushing for any houses built on the land have 100 per cent allocation for people with a local connection,” said Cllr Miller.

Further meetings with representatives from highways and education are planned to take place to address issues that were left unanswered on Monday.
