Drinkers across west Wales are getting the chance to enjoy a poem with their pint. A local literary festival has found a novel way to promote its event this year – short poems are appearing on beermats in pubs and cafes all over the area.
The poem-mats are promoting PENfro Book Festival, which takes place this year from September 9 to 11 at Rhosygilwen in north Pembrokeshire.
PENfro Book Festival chair, Jackie Biggs said:
"You've heard of Poetry on the Underground, you may have heard of Poetry in the Waiting Room (GP surgeries), now, thanks to our talented local poets, drinkers in pubs and cafes can enjoy a poem with their pint or their pinot grigio."
Poets featured on the poem-mats are all members of the PENfro Poets group and were selected for publication on the mats by Parthian Books publisher Richard Davies. The mats are sponsored by Menter Rhosygilwen.
