Pembrokeshire County Council has been alerted to another potential scam regarding the refund of Council Tax.
Several households in the county have recently been phoned by a third party claiming to be from the Council and advising them that they have a significant Council Tax refund due as a result of a backdated reduction to their property’s valuation band.
One customer was asked to pay a fee and provide bank and/or card details to facilitate the refund.
The Council does not operate in this manner and under no circumstances should taxpayers disclose their bank or card details over the telephone.
Anyone receiving telephone calls purporting to be from representatives of the Council, should take the name and telephone number of the caller and contact the Council themselves on 01437 764551 to establish that the call is genuine.
