A very special fund raising event in The Ship, Trefin, has generated £611 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Poppy and Angela Cheshire held a Macmillan Summer Lights night in the pub, with the support of landlady Meriel Murphy.

Angela decided to run the event after her sister, Dawn, was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Just four days before the fundraiser Dawn lost her battle with the disease but Angela was determined to continue in her memory.

“Dawn had been supported by Macmillan,” said Angela. “I wanted to raise funds so that they could help other families.

The Summer Lights event included an auction, with fabulous lots from Wickedly Welsh, the Scarlets, Something’s Cooking, the Artramont Arms and Mathry Tea Rooms; a raffle; a buffet provided by The Ship, The Mill Café and Angela and music by Brian Mirza.

All the money raised from the event went to Macmillan.

“It was very hard work but I knew Dawn would want me to carry on,” said Angela.
