This Sunday's annual Open Day at Tenby Lifeboat Station marks the 10th anniversary of the opening of the new station and UK’s very first Tamar Class Lifeboat to go into service.

Whilst the station is open to visitors every day, visiting on Open Day is rather special as it offers the general public a very rare chance to actually get onboard the boat, talk to the crew and see some of the features that made Haydn Miller the world’s most advanced lifeboat when it arrived a decade ago.

From 10am to 4.30pm, as well as being able to access the lifeboat, visitors can also see some fantastic scale model lifeboats and - on their way to the station - have a look round the the inshore lifeboat which will be on display in Castle Square.

The shop inside the station, the busiest RNLI shop in Wales, will be open as usual selling a wide range of souvenirs, as well as the new History of Tenby Lifeboats book which was published on March 2 this year - the day the Lifeboat arrived at the station in 2006 (price £5.95).

The highlight of the day will be at 5pm when the lifeboat will launch to give a brief rescue demonstration - the viewing gallery in the station will be open to the public for the launch and for the recovery of the lifeboat.

Alternatively, Castle Hill, behind the station, makes for an excellent vantage point to take photos and watch the boat slide down the slip and splash into the sea.

The event is free to attend and everyone at Tenby Lifeboat Station is looking forward to welcoming visitors.
