A taste of Rio came to Fishguard and Goodwick last Saturday, as carnival fever and post-Olympic celebrations gripped the twin towns.

A dazzling procession of seven floats left from Goodwick Moor, with Goodwick Brass Band and Samba Doc blasting out music and providing a real party atmosphere.

They were joined by a host of walking entries lending glitter, sparkles and feathers to the parade.

Local businesses and houses also got into the carnival spirit, decorating their windows in an array of orange and purple, with the winning window being produced by Playdays.

A record amount of people turned up to support the event, organised by Fishguard and District Round Table.

The crowds basked in the sunshine to enjoy music from Samba Doc, Ragsy, Goodwqick Brass Band and Tom Jones as well as magic, fire dancing and stunning dance displays from Ysgol Bro Ingli and the Rock a Billy Dancers.

This was complemented by a variety of games, rides and stalls, many raising money for local charities.

The bumper crowd meant record gate receipts with all money raised going back into the community via donations to local charities, clubs and organisations.

"It went extremely well," said Round Table chairman, Allan Cresswell. "The feedback has been great. I have been overwhelmed.

"It was just a really good day, a totally different and fantastic carnival."
