Over 500 cars, motorbikes, lorries and vans took part in the 19th Pembrokeshire County Run on Sunday which was an “outstanding success”, according to organiser Jeff Edwards.

Vehicles travelled from around the country for the annual event with dry and pleasant driving conditions.

Entries arrived at Pembrokeshire County Showground from 8am, ready to begin the 85-mile tour around the county and Cardigan at 10.30am.

“There were vehicles from the early days of motoring up to head-turning sporty hatchbacks of the 21st century,” said Jeff. “It was an outstanding day.”

This was a special year for founders of the event, Jeff and Sian Edwards, who took part in the run for the very first time in their well-known 18-year-old Rover 216 cabriolet.

Guests included: Cllr David Lloyd, chairman of Rudbaxton Community Council; Cllr Roy Thomas and Shirley Thomas, Haverfordwest Town Council; and Dennis Reed, president of the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society.

County Councillor Peter Stock was at the start with flags in aid of the Paul Sartori Foundation, ensuring many of the vehicles flew the flag for Pembrokeshire and Wales.

Setting off at 10.30am, the route passed through the outskirts of Haverfordwest, before heading along the A487 via Newgale, Solva, St Davids, Goodwick, Fishguard and Newport, before arriving at the halfway point at the Dyfed Shire Horse Farm.

After their stop, the convoy went through the centre of Cardigan, before joining the A478 to Narberth.

The last leg of the route was back to Haverfordwest where the County Run came to an end at 4.30pm.

Jeff Edwards thanked all those who took part who made the day such a success.

“My grateful thanks goes to: the spectators, the Paul Sartori Foundation, Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society, RWE Pembroke Power Station, Dyfed Shire Horse Farm, Phil Thompson, Noel Robinson, Vicky and Anne Edwards and all our dedicated team and marshals.”

Following on from this year’s success, organisers are already looking forward to the 2017 landmark 20th edition County Run.
