Welsh League Division One:

Monmouth Town 2-4 Haverfordwest County

A brace of goals apiece for Steffan Williams and Ashley Bevan saw the Bluebirds, for the second away game running, come from behind to score three second-half goals and win.

The red-clad Bluebirds were hit by an early strike from the Kingfishers’ ex-Carmarthen Town striker Nick Harrhy who drove in a volley from close range.

But the score was levelled on the half-hour by Steffan Williams and the visitors seemed to be moving forward. But on the stroke of half-time they gave away a penalty when a Monmouth attacker was tripped in the box and Harrhy scored his second from the spot.

That in fact was to set up a symmetrical scoring pattern, first of all when Steffan scored his second five minutes into the second half. That second equaliser sent the Bluebirds moving on with real purpose, always looking the likelier winners.

The game was clinched by the third brace of the afternoon, two goals from Ashley Bevan in the 72nd and 82nd minutes, a really creditable achievement.

The goals were his first in competitive matches for the club and also the impressive performance of a striker coming back from a three-match suspension to play the 90 minutes and then to score two deep in the second half.

So a well-earned win again and a third successive victory on the road. The Blues will hope they will soon record a similar success rate on the Meadow.

The club has announced that they have completed the signing of Goodwick United’s Kieran O’ Brien.

The club also expressed sincere condolences to the family of Mel Charles, who died at the weekend. The former Swansea City, Arsenal, Cardiff City and Wales legend finished his footballing days at Haverfordwest County.
