Family and friends of a teenager who lost his life to bone cancer have taken to the skies for a special birthday tribute. Daniel Bridle of Saundersfoot would have celebrated his 21st birthday today (Wednesday). Since his death two years ago, his family have vowed to take positive action to raise money for the Bone Cancer Research Trust and awareness of the devastating disease. And on Sunday, Daniel's mum Caroline, dad Richard, brother Lewis, aged 19 and sister Nicole, aged 16 were amongst 21 people who raised over £8,000 for the charity through a sponsored skydive. "We wanted to do something significant to mark Dan's birthday, and the skydive was brilliant," said Caroline. "It was a very special day, and I just felt so proud of myself and everyone taking part." Following the 12,000-foot skydive at Swansea Airport, the group cut a commemorative cake which had been made and donated by Sue's Pantry of Saundersfoot. The money raised from the event includes a 20 per cent contribution from Tesco, as Caroline is a member of staff at their Saundersfoot shop. The loss of Daniel has inspired over £20,000 of fundraising for the Bone Cancer ResearchTrust, with his brother Lewis raising £1,300 alone from taking part in the recent Ironman Wales - a challenge he completed in 12 hours 23 minutes, the day before starting his studies at medical school in Cardiff. The family's next fundraising event in memory of Dan is a prize bingo evening in aid of the Starlight Foundation, which grants wishes for terminally-ill children and their families, and which provided a fantastic family holiday for the Bridles to Iceland. It takes place at the RAOB Club, Kilgetty on Friday, with doors open at 7pm. Donations to the Bone Cancer Research Trust can be made via Richard Bridle on JustGiving.
