UNIVERSITY students are being offered the chance to learn the ropes at the UK's largest energy port, and earn £1,5000 in the process.

The Port of Milford Haven has launched its annual scholarship scheme, which will see four undergraduate students from Pembrokeshire take part in a summer work placement with the trust.

Each will also receive an award of £1,500.

The initiative is now in its 14th year and during that time has supported more than 60 people with their studies.

A wide range of placements are available in areas such as the marina, fish docks, engineering and marketing.

Guto Harries, one of the winners of a place on this year's scheme, said: “The experience was absolutely invaluable, both in terms of providing an insight into a professional working environment, working on real projects in real situations, and self-development with the opportunity to apply previous learned knowledge.”

Alec Don, chief executive at the Port, said: “I would encourage all undergraduate students from Pembrokeshire to apply to our scholarship scheme as it will give them a unique insight into the workings of the UK’s largest port and help them financially while at university.”

To be eligible, students must be on a degree course at a British university and have completed the majority of their secondary education in Pembrokeshire.

Applications must be completed online by Friday, November 11, by visiting the Port of Milford Haven website.
