PLANS to build a five-screen cinema complex and restaurants on the current Wilko site in Haverfordwest town centre have been unveiled.

The application is to part-demolition and reconfigure the existing Wilko store near the Old Bridge, transforming it into a modern lesiure and entertainment complex.

If approved, the development would see a multi-screen cinema, four restaurant units, and outdoor seating areas built.

The current plans include provision for 106 car parking spaces - 47 fewer than currently available on the site.

The application is being made by Fairacre, the owners of Riverside Quay Shopping Centre and more recently the Wilko store.

Jeannie Pritchard of Fairacre said: "There is currently a lack of leisure provision within Haverfordwest and this new development will create a vibrant evening attraction for residents and those visiting this historical centre."

Cllr Keith Lewis, deputy leader of Pembrokeshire County Council said: “I warmly welcome this investment proposal for Haverfordwest, which will enhance the town centre offer and support our regeneration strategy for the area.

"It supports the vision of the Haverfordwest Masterplan to create a vibrant town centre.”

The pre-application consultation started today (Friday, October 7) and closes on November 4.

UPDATE: Development firm Conygar has since said it still intends to seek planning for its own cinema proposals at Slade Lane.
